Symptomes
If you want to keep your E34 for a very long time... there is no secret, either you bring it to the dealer or a reputable independent, or you perform all the work yourself... and most of the time, because you know and care for your car, the work you will do on your BMW will be of better quality. (Except if you are a sloppy mechanic...)Difficulty definition
EASY: Easy (oil change)AVERAGE: Some mechanical knowledge required (brake pads)
HARD: Lot of mechanical knowledge or tools required (clutch replacement)
ARG: Better left to specialists (Engine rebuilt)
What tools do I need
If you plan on doing some work on your car, you should have the BENTLEY Service manual for your car (except if you have a E24...), a set of screwdrivers, sockets, wrenches, a decent floor jack, jack stands. This is a minimum.
