Gauge cluster

Cost: $200+$95

Difficulty:

Time: 2 hours?

Procedure and photos courtesy of Phil Coppin

The BMW E34/E32 has only few engine information gauges: water temp. Having the oil temperature and oil pressure would be a plus. You could also add a air/fuel mixture gauge.

The problem is that there isn't a lot of area where you can place the gauges, the stick shift area is the best location.

Pros: OEM look of the black cover and gauges.
Cons: Price, this is $200...

I am still not convinced this is the best solution for gauges.. I have my idea on a different and cheaper setup. To be continued...

Procedure

I bought the cluster and gauges from BMP Design.

Yes, it is bulky... It is like solid rubbery plastic and weighs about a pound! It fits perfectly (typical German over-engineering!) with not a rattle or squeak since installation and the black texture matches the black instrument panel and the gauge lighting matches the orange glow of the stock instruments.

3 way oil pressure switch adapter for the M50 motor

The JT-D adapter for the gauge sensors was $95 bucks and well worth it. I now have the stock idiot light plus oil temperature and oil pressure gauges all from optimum position for all the features (the stock position not the top of the oil filter housing link some others). I tapped the voltmeter from a live feed for the emergency flashers in the center console.
